The Artist, Keith Stambaugh - Pertinent information and other stuff.

If I look serious, it's because I am serious. Each and every crumb of artistic relevance that's rattling around in my brain, amassed over the past 36 years since art school goes into my work. And I have a serious sense of humor too - you'll find that on these pages, the names of my paintings and my daily approach to life itself.

Currently: Owner, Warehouse Gourmet Bistro and Brew Pub, Hanover, PA

Born: January 25, 1961, Hanover, PA

1978 Graduated High School in Spring Grove, PA

1978 - 1981 York Academy of Arts, York, PA. Honor student, didn't graduate*

*December 16, 1981 Fire at my studio in my senior year destroyed all my art except one painting. (Give Me Shelter) Experienced first hand the impermanence of all things.

1982 Pierced left ear with push pin (confused parents)

1983 - 1984 Penn State, Architectural Engineering Major, Distinguished Honors, didn't graduate (disappointed parents)

1984 - 1988 Did lots of art, mostly pastels, built some cool stuff, had some shows, worked for my brother as a land surveyor. Operated under the name Utopiage Studios, became a Buddhist (disappointing my parents became easier) but that's my karma.

1988 Quit my job (disappointed my brother and enraged ex-wife) started Signs of Life, painting signs and screen printing. Soon after, I realized I wasn't a very efficient sign painter and started doing faux finishes and created Universal Surfaces, painting backgrounds and building sets for photography. Made some money, got divorced and lost some money. (disappointed parents, ex-wife, etc.)

1993 Started Raw Male Products with Steve A., (not what you think) painting boxer shorts with custom condom pocket with squirt bottles. (concerned parents, friends - surprised customers)

1994 Changed name of company to Peacock Painted Artwear, creating all types of painted apparel.

1994 Realized name was goofy and changed to Screaming Peacock for more of an edge. Painted, printed and sold thousands of tee shirts, etc. Got to know about carpel tunnel syndrome.

1996 Purchased the Warehouse at 7 Pennsylvania Avenue. Home at last!

1999 Started squirting canvases. The light came on!

2000 Buried "the bird", painted more canvases. Met Melinda and fell in love.

2002 Started The League of Crafty Painters with my friend Eric. Did some truly awesome painted interiors, murals, faux marble, strie, sponging, ragging, etc. More canvases. Got represented by Agora Gallery in NYC, group show, two one man shows in the south of France, shows around York, PA. Sold some paintings, paid the bills. Married Melinda.

2005 Stopped painting canvases and "behind toilets" to build Melinda's restaurant, Warehouse Gourmet. Turned my studio into two big kitchens and swapped paint for cheesecake batter and sourdough. Taught myself to bake desserts, bread, and how to not kill a sourdough starter. Took phone orders, cooked and plated food and made deliveries. Made a sourdough starter that is now nine years old... started learning the restaurant business... missing my paint.

2009 Started brewing beer in 5 gallon batches.

2012 Built a brewery on the second floor of the warehouse to get out of the kitchen. Opened the upstairs pub and was sucked back into the kitchen. Figures...

2013 Agreed to a request by the Hanover Area Arts Guild to do a feature show at their gallery. Lots of art rolled up in attic, no problem.

2014 May. Driven to tears by the need to create new art and produce a retrospective art show I started painting again! This time, with limited studio space I ended up in the attic and restarted my pastel career.

2014 October. The Art Guild show was a great success, sold paintings and prints and broke Melinda's foot in two places.

2014 November. Hung show at the Hanover Amish Market...
